If you have questions, you might find some answers below.
Feel free to contact us with additional questions.
With virtual training, you can train your dog in his most comfortable environment while getting feedback and demos as you train. Your dog will be able to focus better, without the added distraction of other dogs and people. As you work on technical skills and behaviors, you will get coaching on how to challenge your dog even further with distractions added gradually. Even if you aren't comfortable with most online technology, we will find a way to walk you through the process in the format that is easiest for you.
Yes, we can do a short session to make sure the technology is comfortable for you. During these difficult times, we are all moving out of our comfort zone. This is a good time to try something new and see how it can benefit you.
Send an email noting which service interests you and request a registration form. The cost of group classes depends on the type of class and number of sessions. We now have smaller class sizes, which means more personalized attention.
How many people can attend class with my dog? Can I bring my kids?
Anyone who lives with or cares for your dog should be involved in the training and can attend class (depending on a specific class location and available space). Kids are welcome as long as they aren’t a distraction to other students or dogs. Bring a quiet activity for you children just in case they get bored.
Group classes currently have a max of 4 or 6 dogs, which allows you to get the attention you'll need during training. Some classes have training assistants. This may vary for a specialty class.
My dog barks at other dogs, is a basic class appropriate for him?
Dogs who do a lot of barking around other dogs are not appropriate for our in-person group classes. Some dogs who bark at other dogs on a walk, can focus on their handlers in a group class setting once they are engaged in an exercise. Online classes are perfect for dogs who are not yet comfortable working around other dogs. You would need to discuss this with the trainer to determine whether an evaluation is needed. Your dog may need specialized reactive dog classes or private sessions to get him ready for a group class.
This may be possible for outdoor classes. Due to COVID protocols, we are limiting the amount of people in some of our in-person classes. We are happy to answer questions you may have about the class curriculum.
We need to see records that indicate your dog is up to date on vaccines for canine parvovirus, distemper and rabies. Bood titer tests can be used as proof of your dog’s immunity to distemper/parvo in place of vaccine boosters.
Puppies need to be current on vaccines, but do not need to complete their full series of vaccines before attending classes. They can attend 10 days after their first DHPP vaccine.. In fact, it is crucial that your pup get healthy socialization during the first few months of life, which will greatly reduce the risk of fear aggression and other behavior problems. A well run puppy class in a safe and clean environment is an important factor in social development. Scientific research concludes that early puppy class attendance does not increase the risk of disease. “Study Results Suggest Partially Immunized Puppies Attending Socialization Classes Are at No Greater Risk for Parvo Than Puppies That Don’t Attend Classes” (Dr. Becker DVM – www.healthypets.mercola.com)
